Position: Water Plant Operator/Trainee

Description:
The position is for an employee to be trained in the operations and maintenance functions in a water treatment plant. This is an entry level position with the possibility of future advancement at the Town of Andrews Water Plant.
General Responsibilities
Make regular tours of the plant and check generators, pumps, chemical feed systems and other equipment. Records data from various meters and testing. Trainee will learn how to log data hourly, daily, weekly and monthly activities. Performs standard laboratory chemical tests. Performs general preventive and scheduled maintenance, assists on major maintenance repairs. Regulates and adjusts pumps, and other apparatus to meet changing conditions. Performs routine building and grounds tasks including cleaning, and painting. Collects water samples from plant and distribution systems. Analyzes plant performance and makes changes and other adjustments based on continuous changing conditions. Backwash filters. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED. Knowledge of operation and maintenance of machinery preferably in water treatment, and an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Possess or the ability to obtain a C-Surface certification within one year.
Functions
Ability to work 30 hours within a 7-day week. Must be able to work at times on weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. Must be able to be flexible in the event of an emergency and be prepared to work till proper water levels are met. Must be trustworthy, responsible and capable for this position. Must take a sense of pride in responsibilities to provide a quality and safe product to customers. Ability to work alone at times. Ability to work with others, fellow operators, and members of administration.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to exert in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. An employee must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. The employee is subject to environmental conditions, both inside and outside.
