Town of Andrews Declares State of Emergency Due to Wildfire Risk

Published on: Mar 27, 2025 From the Mayor

Mayor James Reid has officially declared a State of Emergency for the Town of Andrews, effective Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., as a precautionary measure in response to growing wildfire risks.

While there are currently no active fires within the town limits, the declaration is intended to allow the town to take proactive steps to ensure public safety. This includes coordinating emergency response, requesting aid from state and federal agencies, limiting access to certain areas if necessary, and implementing emergency protective measures.

Recent dry weather, low humidity, and high winds—combined with a region-wide burn ban and a State of Emergency declared by North Carolina Governor Josh Stein—have heightened concerns. The next expected rainfall isn’t forecasted until Sunday, further increasing fire-related risks.

“This declaration is strictly precautionary and taken out of an abundance of caution,” said Mayor Reid. “Our goal is to stay ahead of potential threats and protect the lives, property, and well-being of our residents and visitors.”

The declaration will remain in effect until it is modified or rescinded.
